Vietnam imported US$376.84 million of coal in August, a 23.3 percent fall from July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year-to-date imports reached US$4.71 billion.
Australia remained the leading supplier with US$108.52 million, though its shipments fell by nearly half month-on-month.
Indonesia increased exports to Vietnam by 31.9 percent to US$139.21 million, strengthening its position as the second-largest source.
Russia shipped US$66.46 million, down 34.2 percent. Smaller suppliers included Laos, China, and Malaysia.
The data highlights Vietnam’s reliance on Australia and Indonesia, which together supplied nearly 70 percent of coal imports in 2025 to date.
