Vietnam imported goods worth US$1.59 billion from the US in August, down 4.37 percent from July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year-to-date imports reached US$12.14 billion.
Computers and electrical products led with US$464.88 million, though down 12.67 percent month-on-month.
Cotton followed at US$121.02 million, while plastics stood at US$86.94 million.
Other notable imports included machinery (US$125.77 million), animal fodders (US$68.51 million), and wood (US$60.80 million).
Smaller categories saw large swings: wheat surged more than tenfold to US$21.16 million, while pastry and sweets rose eighteenfold.
By contrast, imports of motor vehicles plunged 91.45 percent, and fishery imports jumped 40.50 percent.
The data highlights Vietnam’s continued reliance on US high-tech and agricultural goods, though monthly shifts show volatility across specific product categories.
