Vietnam’s retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue continued to expand in August, supported by large-scale celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, according to Vietnam’s National Statistics Office.
Total retail sales in August were estimated at VND 588.2 trillion (US$22.62 billion), up 2.6 percent month-on-month and 10.6 percent year-on-year.
For the first eight months of 2025, total retail sales reached VND 4,579.0 trillion (US$176.12 billion), an increase of 9.4 percent compared with the same period last year.
Retail goods made up 76.3 percent of the total, while accommodation, food services, tourism, and other services contributed the remainder.
Retail goods revenue reached VND 3,495.8 trillion (US$134.45 billion), up 8.1 percent.
Growth was strongest in food and foodstuffs, up 10.1 percent, followed by cultural and educational items, garments, and household appliances.
Accommodation and food services generated VND 552.4 trillion (US$21.25 billion), up 14.7 percent, while travel and tourism revenue surged 20.3 percent to VND 61.2 trillion (US$2.35 billion).
Other services brought in VND 469.6 trillion (US$18.06 billion), up 11.9 percent.
Ho Chi Minh City led accommodation and food service growth at 18.6 percent and topped tourism revenue growth with a 24 percent rise.
Hanoi recorded strong growth, with retail sales up 8.2 percent, food services up 11.4 percent, and tourism up 20.9 percent.
