Vietnam’s crude steel production in August 2025 was estimated at 1.96 million tons, down from 2.03 million tons in July, according to the latest data from Vietnam’s National Statistics Office.
Output in August fell 6.1 percent year-on-year.
For the January–August 2025 period, cumulative production reached 14.89 million tons, an increase of 2.2 percent compared with the same period last year.
The data reflects modest recovery in the steel sector despite weaker short-term demand.
The decline in August points to challenges in both domestic construction activity and export orders, while the cumulative growth shows a baseline of stability in steel making.
Rising input costs and competition from imports continue to pressure the industry.
Iron and steel remain fundamental to Vietnam’s infrastructure expansion, supporting housing, transport, and industrial development.
