Vietnam’s imports of chemical products slipped to US$673.76 million in August, down 4.23 percent from July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. Year-to-date imports stood at US$5.18 billion.
China remained the top supplier with US$286.33 million, down 0.66 percent, accounting for 41.59 percent of the total.
South Korea followed with US$71.91 million, down 9.19 percent, while Japan supplied US$51.85 million, a 13.80 percent drop.
Taiwan was the only major Asian supplier to record growth, rising 12.84 percent to US$46.15 million.
The US shipped US$36.04 million, down 17.31 percent.
Thailand and Malaysia both posted modest gains, while Germany fell 5.38 percent to US$23.16 million.
Smaller European suppliers such as Italy, Spain, and France recorded double-digit declines, but Denmark jumped 143.62 percent and Lithuania nearly 150 percent, albeit from very low bases.
The figures show Vietnam’s reliance on China, South Korea, and Japan, which collectively make up over 60 percent of chemical imports.
Volatility among smaller suppliers reflects shifting demand and contract-based procurement.
