Vietnam imported US$566.51 million worth of goods from Australia in July, down 3 percent from June, though year-to-date imports remained steady at US$4.20 billion, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Coal continued to dominate, totalling US$210.21 million despite a 22.2 percent month-on-month drop, and accounted for 40.6 percent of total imports. Other base metals held stable at US$90.91 million, while ores and other mineral products fell 6.4 percent to US$79.00 million.
Agricultural imports showed strong growth. Cotton surged 186 percent to US$34.33 million, fruits and vegetables rose 41.5 percent to US$15.95 million, and milk and dairy products increased 16.4 percent to US$9.71 million. Ferrous scrap posted an exceptional increase, jumping more than tenfold to US$13.55 million.
Energy-related imports were volatile. Liquefied petroleum gas imports rose nearly fivefold to US$5.45 million, while other petroleum products climbed 82.4 percent to US$1.56 million.
Overall, July’s data reflected weaker demand for coal and ores but notable gains in cotton, dairy, scrap, and LPG, pointing to diversification beyond raw materials in Vietnam’s import basket from Australia.
