Vietnam’s natural gas production in August 2025 was estimated at 515.7 million cubic metres, up from 494.3 million cubic metres in July, according to the latest data from Vietnam’s National Office of Statistics.
Output in August jumped 14.6 percent year-on-year.
Cumulative production in the first eight months of 2025 stood at 3.99 billion cubic metres, a decline of 9.4 percent compared with the same period in 2024.
The August rebound indicates short-term recovery, but overall production weakness suggests structural limits in Vietnam’s gas sector.
Greater reliance on imported LNG may be necessary to meet rising electricity demand as domestic fields mature.
Natural gas remains critical to Vietnam’s energy transition, serving as both a baseload and flexible fuel source alongside renewables.
