Vietnam extracted an estimated 688,500 tonnes of crude oil in July 2025, up from 663,400 tonnes in June, according to Vietnam’s National Office of Statistics.
Cumulative output for the first seven months of 2025 reached 4.62 million tonnes, representing a year-on-year decline of 3.1 percent compared with the same period in 2024.
July alone showed a year-on-year increase of 4.2 percent.
The figures show a short-term rebound in monthly production but point to a broader downward trend in crude oil output.
Declining reserves and a shift in national energy policy toward renewables and imported LNG are contributing factors, though oil continues to play a key role in Vietnam’s export revenues and energy security.
Vietnam faces the challenge of balancing declining domestic output with rising energy demand.
This underscores the importance of both upstream investment and diversification into alternative energy sources.
