Vietnam extracted an estimated 725,500 tons of crude oil in August 2025, slightly up from 708,400 tons in July, according to the latest data from Vietnam’s National Office of Statistics.
August output grew 6 percent year-on-year.
For the January–August 2025 period, crude oil production reached 5.37 million tons, down 1.6 percent compared with the same timeframe last year.
The decline underlines challenges in maintaining stable output as mature oilfields face natural declines.
While August’s year-on-year gain provides a temporary boost, overall production remains constrained.
This trend signals the need for investment in enhanced recovery and new offshore exploration to offset falling output from existing wells.
Crude oil continues to play a strategic role in Vietnam’s energy security and export revenue, though its share in the energy mix is slowly shrinking compared to gas and renewables.
