Vietnam imported US$191.34 million of liquefied petroleum gases (LPG) in August, up from US$173.38 million in July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year-to-date imports reached US$1.35 billion, reflecting steady growth in demand but with significant shifts in supply sources.
The August increase was mainly driven by higher volumes from China, Australia, and South Korea, while Malaysia remained flat and Qatar registered a steep decline.
Smaller suppliers such as Taiwan also re-entered the market, though with modest volumes.
Over the first eight months of the year, Malaysia accounted for 20.55 percent of total imports, making it Vietnam’s largest consistent source, while Qatar followed with 12.07 percent despite August’s collapse to zero.
China held a 10.32 percent share, with rising momentum in August.
The re-emergence of Gulf suppliers such as Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE also highlights Vietnam’s continued diversification.
LPG remains an essential input for household, industrial, and transport use in Vietnam.
