Spain Table Grape Market Analysis

The Spain Table Grape Market size is estimated at USD 1.85 billion in 2025, and is expected to reach USD 2.23 billion by 2030, at a CAGR of 3.76% during the forecast period (2025-2030).

Spain's table grape industry has demonstrated consistent growth and resilience. The production is concentrated in key regions like Murcia and benefits from established export relationships within Europe. The increase in table grape production stems from several factors: the introduction of new high-quality varieties, expansion into international markets, enhanced harvest and processing methods that improve productivity, and development of varieties with superior traits such as crisp texture and high yield potential.

In recent years, the Spanish government has been working to access new markets beyond its traditional export destinations to increase its agricultural produce exports, including table grapes. In October 2022, through the efforts of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Spain gained approval to export table grapes to Thailand, where it will compete with United States imports.

Furthermore, Spain will host the 2026 World Table Grape Symposium in the Murcia region. This event highlights Spain's position in the global table grape industry and provides a platform for sharing innovations and best practices, which may contribute to the growth of the country's table grape market in the coming years.

Spain Table Grape Market Trends

Murcia Driving the Spain Table Grape Production

Spain has emerged as a key player in grape production within the EU, now holding the second spot in table grape production, trailing only Italy. The Region of Murcia leads in table grape production, contributing over 70% to Spain's total output, with Alicante and Seville regions following it. Over the past decade, Spanish growers, notably ITUM, have transitioned from older grape varieties to newer seedless ones, including Superior, Sugarone, Sunworld, Ifg, and California Grapes. These new introductions, coupled with efforts to penetrate international markets, are enhancing the prospects for Spanish table grapes. These new varieties are recognized for their crisp texture and high yield.

Additionally, advancements in harvesting and processing techniques have further boosted productivity. Murcia stands out not just for its production but also as a hub for grape breeding, technology, and innovation in Spain. The Spanish table grape industry is actively working towards minimizing phytosanitary treatments, aiming for more sustainable production methods. Innovations extend to developing new varieties and procedures that bolster the circular economy, curtail food waste, and promote green packaging. Research and development in new grape varieties have been pivotal to the flourishing of Spain's table grape sector.

Owing to all the above factors, Spain's grape production increased over the past few years. According to EUROSTAT, the production of table grapes in Spain grew from 287.5 thousand metric tons to 347.7 thousand metric tons, registering a CAGR (Compound Annual Growth Rate) of 3.7% during 2020-2023 and is anticipated to continue in the coming years.

High Export Potential for Spain Grapes in International Market

Spain exports approximately 60% of its total table grape production, making it a net exporter as production exceeds domestic consumption. According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the European Union receives about 60% of Spanish table grape exports, with Germany, Portugal, the Netherlands, and France being the primary destinations. While Spain faces significant competition from Egypt in the EU market, its exports to the United Kingdom have remained stable despite Brexit. Beyond the EU, Spain's main export markets include Norway, South Africa, the United States, Singapore, and Canada.

Offlate, the exports have been targeted to non-EU markets such as the Americas, Asia, and Middle Eastern markets worldwide. For instance, Table Grape exports from Spain to Saudi Arabia increased by over 150% during 2020-2024 reaching 257 metric tons in 2024. A significant increase has been noticed in exports to other countries such as South Africa, Mauritania, etc during the same period and is anticipated to continue further owing to high production and growing demand for high quality table grapes in the international market.
